What is a Community Fridge?
A Community Fridge is a space where anyone can share food to combat food waste, either by bringing food to leave for others or by taking food to use themselves. It is a welcoming space open to all. The Llangollen Food Share Community Fridge is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9.00am – 11.00am. Please call in and see us! An organisation called Hubbub supports community groups to set up these Fridges to stop good food from going to waste.
Our centre in Llangollen also helps reduce food waste by having a table outside with ‘Free Food’ available to anyone. We put food on the table that is surplus to our regular distributions of food to those in need.
What impact do Community Fridges have?
In 2021, Hubbub estimates that the Community Fridge Network redistributed around 3,150 tonnes of surplus food (that’s the same as 7.5 million meals!*) and welcomed over 1 million visits from 250,000 visitors. With each fridge sharing an average of 2.1 tonnes of food per month, the collective impact of the Community Fridge Network is huge.
